\( \mathbf{x}^* \)

Short Description

This symbol represents a random proposal for the next state in the sampling sequence.

Medium Description

This symbol represents a random proposal for the next state in the sampling sequence. It is a valid state sampled from a simple distribution (e.g. Uniform, Gaussian).

Long Description

The symbol \( \mathbf{x}^* \) represents a valid state from the state space \( \htmlClass{sdt-0000000038}{\mathcal{X}} \) which is considered for being the next element of a sampler's generated sequence. It is usually sampled from a computationally much simpler distribution, such as Uniform or Gaussian.
